Bring A-levels back to Knowsley. For too long, Knowsley’s young people have been unable to access the further education options they deserve on their doorstep. My mission is to bring an A-level offer back into the constituency.
When I got into Parliament in 2024, one of the first things I spoke about in the House of Commons was the lack of A-level provision in Knowsley. I haven't forgotten about this, and I'm working to change things and bring A-levels back.
The Cost of Living is the single biggest issue affecting people in Knowsley - it's the great unifier that connects so many of us, and it needs to be sorted out. The government is working hard on the long-term solution, bringing down interest rates, food costs, and energy bills, but in the mean time I've been running dedicated Cost of Living advice forums for residents.
Put Knowsley on the map as a priority for youth investment. Knowsley’s young people deserve high quality sports clubs, facilities and kit, and should have places to go and opportunities to gain valuable life experiences. I’m committed to supporting local organisations to get the funding they need, and improve youth provision in the constituency.
The government has made a historic £1.6bn investment into Merseyside's transport network, and I want to hear how Knowsley residents want that money spent. I've been running a Big Bus Survey, collecting feedback on what's good and bad about the buses, where residents want to see improvements, new services or upgrades.
My Simonswood Stink campaign has had a major SUCCESS! Residents in Shevington and Northwood have been dealing with an awful smell and dust for years and years, caused by out of control waste dumping on Simonswood Industrial estate. On 27th March the Environment Agency announced the revocation of the waste permit for Windmill Services, the company storing a mountain of waste visible from all over Tower Hill.
This year, the government has delivered a major shake up to the way councils are funded - putting money where it's needed most, in the most deprived parts of the country, and that means Knowsley. I fought hard for Knowsley to get its fair share, and Knowsley Council will see a 21% increase in council funding over the first 4 years of this government - that's huge for local residents, and means the council can keep a balanced budget without any service cuts or job losses.
Knowsley suffers with terrible rates of violence against women and girls. It's a disease which needs to be eradicated from our community, and I've made it a priority to get better government support to bring the levels of violence down. I've worked closely with The First Step, Knowsley's independent domestic abuse specialist, to push for changes to independent service funding, and with Knowsley Council we've delivered a more secure multi-year funding cycle.
